Amanda Lanzillo

Hello! I am a historian, and I research and write about labor, technology, artisanship, and religion in Muslim communities in colonial-era South Asia.

My first monograph, Pious Labor: Islam, artisanship, and technology in colonial India is now available from University of California Press. It has been published open access as part of the Islamic Humanities series, and can be read or downloaded here.

As of January 2023, I am a Lecturer in South Asian History at Brunel University London.

From 2020-2023, I was a  Cotsen Postdoctoral Fellow with the Princeton University Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts.

I earned a PhD in history from Indiana University in April 2020.
